We are very excited to be partnering with Rachel Maclean's Too Happy Studios for a new artist moving image commission revealed in 2024, and are excited to announce the inaugural recipient is Kialy Tihngang.
Kialy's short film was shot in Too Happy studios at the start of the year, with DOP Jamie Quantrill and production by Forest of Black. The completed work will premiere at Glasgow Short Film Festival in March 2025.
Kialy Tihngang works in video, sculpture, textiles, animation and photomontage, typically involving elaborate sets, costumes, graphics, props, and collaborations with performers and musicians. Combining the dark humour of Nollywood with the aesthetics of retrofuturism and the visual language of Western mass media, Tihngang explores Blackness, queerness, Britishness, and the crushing structural oppressions surrounding these identities, through reimagined histories and speculated futures.
