Continuing our relationship with record label 4AD, we were commissioned for a multi camera shoot capturing The Lemon Twigs performance at the Queen Margaret Union as part of there UK Tour. Not that we are bias but it was a pretty cool show by one of the most creative bands we have had the pleasure of filming. Keep an eye out for future developments on this project.
Director Michael Sherrington takes a simplistic yet highly emotive approach to this latest promo for Belle & Sebastian. Paying homage to Warhols ‘Screen tests’ michael’s simple and pure set-up aloud for an intimate and emphatic study of the complexities of human emotions and the inner-space of a variety of different characters. Selected by Promo news as one of there Video’s of the Month. We hope you enjoy it, view here.
The very talented Ciaran Lyons delivered this weird and wonderful promo for Bdy_Prts latest single ‘Take It To The Top’. Ludicrously restrictive costumes, Hypnotic dancing set against a colourful backdrop, whats not to love. The video also landed Ciaran his second Video of the Month with Promo news and can be viewed Here.
Oscar and Beth teamed up with Northern Irish agency We Are Genesis to create a series of emotional piece’s around sufferers of dementia. Delivering a broadcast commercial as well as a series of short documentary’s everyone involved felt privileged to tell the stories of our incredible contributors. A very a worthwhile project to be involved in. View Here.
Oscar had a lot of fun working with Reading based rockers The Amazons on this incredibly energetic performance video. Shot on beautiful 16mm and then painstakingly animated frame-by-frame, scratching and marking directly on the negative, it is a beautifully crafted and viscerally energetic spectacle. Check it out in all its scratchy glory here.
Michael and Beth have been working with Edinburgh based author Jenni Fagan on a film of her poem ‘Bangour Village Hospital or Edinburgh District Asylum’ – watch the trailer for the film here. We’re calling it a cine poem. Jenni was named best Scottish Novelist of 2016 by the Sunday Herald and is developing her 1st novel into a feature film so we were really pleased to be able to work with her to direct her first short. It screened in Hull at the start of June with Neu Reekie. We’re currently looking for an online home for the film and submitting to festivals so you should be able to watch it in full very soon.
We shot this film at the end of 2016 in the dark dark winter nights. An atmospheric film for EFPIA to highlight the tireless work of medical researchers. Great to work with the Leith Agency again on this one and a really slick and impactful piece directed by Michael Sherrington, cinematography by Nick Aiton, scored by John Lemke.
While we love the discipline of creating short form content we’ve always had the desire to get our teeth into some more complex stories. Beth was at Sheffield Doc Fest this year as part of the Scottish Delegation meeting commissioners and sales agents as well soaking up films, industry sessions and free drinks! Meanwhile Blair and Michael were on the delightful Hebridean Isle of Eigg filming around their 20th Anniversary of Independence celebrations for a documentary we are working on about the island. Watch this space for more on this and other projects we are developing.
Ok, so maybe it wasn’t in the running for the Palme D’or, but we are extremely proud that our Straight 8 film ‘Hard Coffee’ was selected as one of 8 films to show in the competition’s Cannes screening. We had a brilliant time shmoozing around Le Croisette and meeting great filmmakers from across the world as well as new pals at partner organisations Jameson First Shot and Eleven Fifty Five. There’s a chance to see the film in London in July and after that we’ll get it up on the website for your viewing pleasure. Straight 8 is an amazing filmmaking competition where you make a short on 1 roll of super8 film, no editing, the 1st time you see your film is on the big screen! Get involved in the next round.
